CSA to induce BCCI to use UDRS in upcoming Test series
Cricket South Africa (CSA) is in favour of using the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) in their upcoming home Test series against India later this year. Gerald Majola, the CSA chief executive, admitted that they are trying to persuade
their Indian counterparts to use the technology in the home series.
India Cricket is not in favour of the Umpire Decision Review System and has not used it in their home Test series against the Proteas earlier this year. The recently concluded Test series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 also did not feature
the UDRS technology despite Australia’s persistent attempts to convince the Board of Control of Cricket in India in this regard. The Indian board has also ruled out any possibility of using the review system in the upcoming Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754
that is slated to begin from 4th November in Ahmedabad.
The CSA chief executive revealed that Cricket South Africa is having discussions with the Indian board over whether the UDRS could be used during the three-match Test-series that is scheduled to kick-start from 16th of December.
"We have to persuade India because at the moment they don't want it," said Majola while talking to a cricket website.
According to ICC policy, the host side can opt to use the UDRS after consulting with the visiting nation and Cricket South Africa wants to implement the technology in its home Test series as "it's the most fair way for decisions to be made."
South African captain Graeme Smith considers the review system useful to the game and wants the International Cricket Council to implement UDRS consistently.
"Technology is obviously an important way forward in cricket. It will be beneficial to the game and the players are behind. I think if the Umpire Decision Review System is going to be successful it needs to be implemented properly by the
ICC and not on a 50/50 basis like we have seen so far," Smith said.
The Umpire Decision Review System has received a mixed reaction from across the world. For the time, the review system was used in July-August 2008 during a three-Test series between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Since then, India has been opposing
the use of the review system.
Former India captain and the middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid supports the technology whilst World’s incumbent No. 1 Test batsman Sachin Tendulkar feels the technology must be infallible before its execution in matches.
