CSA unwilling to impose sanctions on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WD-Parnell-c2787 – Cricket News Update
Acting chief executive of Cricket South Africa, Jacques Faul, has said that the board is unlikely to impose any sanctions on medium-pacer Wayne Parnell, after the left-armer was alleged to have taken recreational drugs during a rave party in India earlier
this year.
Parnell, along with Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Police during a raid on a rave party on May 20 this year, during season 5 of the Indian Premier League, following which both players tested positive for recreational drugs.
“To take action against Wayne will be next to impossible at the moment because the whole process over there has been shambolic,” Faul said while speaking to
Supersport. “The police are talking to some sections of the media but not to the cricket boards. The whole testing procedure was not done according to the standards that normally apply in sport and Wayne would be able to contest any action we take
with absolute ease.”
Both players were tested for cannabis and MDMA (more commonly known as Ecstasy), although it was not specified which banned substance they tested positive for. There is the chance that cannabis may have worked its way into the system via passive smoking,
and the Indian police have yet to charge either player. Both CSA and the BCCI have been waiting on details from the specific test reports, reluctant to take any action against their respective players without concrete evidence.
Both cricketers have maintained their innocence, with Sharma declaring that he was prepared to quit cricket if found guilty and Parnell insisting that he was “in the wrong place, at the wrong time”.
Meanwhile, both players have been busy with their respective teams. Sharma recently played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 A. He also participated in the
unofficial Zimbabwe Twenty20 Triangular Series in June this year.
The Proteas medium-pacer, whose career spans 3 Tests (with 5 wickets to his name), 22 ODIs (33 wickets) and 82 T20s (77 scalps), has also been included in South Africa’s preliminary squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20, scheduled to be played this September
