Soviet Top League winner shared his expectations ahead of the Russian Premier League tie at Petrovsky stadium and commented on the injured players.
Former Zenit St. Petersburg defender, Sergei Vedeneyev, has tipped his former club to win the upcoming Russian Premier League tie against the out-of-form Russian outfit, CSKA Moscow, at Petrovsky stadium.
With six league games left to play, Zenit are atop the league table with a staggering 77 points.
Luciano Spalletti’s side moved 11 points clear atop the league table and ahead of their closest rivals, CSKA, after winning their latest league tie 1-0 against Lokomotiv Moscow.
Speaking on Zenit’s latest win against the Moscow-based club, Vedeneyev hailed the St. Petersburg club, admitting that they deserved to claim all three points against the Railroaders. He added that Zenit have moved one step closer
to retaining the league title this season.
Zenit have managed to win last two league meetings while the Armeytsy, on the other hand, have failed to win in the last three outings. The last time these two met in a league competition, CSKA managed to get away with a point
after scoring a late equalizer.
The Russian stopper admitted that CSKA need to alter the situation after having a nightmare start to the third league round.
“I think the Moscow-based club does not deserve to win the league title. CSKA were 7 points ahead of Zenit during the second league round but Zenit leapfrogged them after they put in poor performances.” Vedeneyev was quoted as
saying.
He accepted that the Armeytsy are inferior to Zenit at the moment and highlighted the Koni’s injured players. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-Dzagoev-c4249 are not likely to feature against the Red-blues.
However, their first team goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Akinfeev-c16676, is in contention to start the crunch tie after 6 months of absence. The 27-year-old shot-stopper sustained a shoulder injury while playing against Spartak Moscow earlier in the
season.
Vedeneyev revealed that Zenit need to show character because they will be without key players as well. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Viktor-Fayzulin-c36130 are all out injured with respective injuries.
