Pontus Wernbloom praises the Moscow-based club’s UEFA Champions League performance and revealed the reason behind his Russian Premier League move from AZ Alkmaar.
In the latest round of UEFA Champions League action, CSKA Moscow drew 1-1 against Real Madrid at Luzhniki stadium.
In the aftermath of the outcome Pontus Wernbloom has expressed his delight to score his first European goal for the Moscow-based club. However, he refused to single out his performance and credited the entire team.

“During the first half we were a bit nervous and Real completely dominated the field but during the second half of the game, we played better.

Speaking on the reason behind his Russian Premier League move, the former IFK Goteborg player revealed that the Dutch outfit offered him a contract extension but he refused to stay at AFAS Stadion, after receiving a lucrative offer
from the Koni.
He revealed that he would have lamented his decision, had he opted to stay with the Dutch outfit. Wernbloom ranked CSKA above the Cheese Farmers, highlighting them amongst the strongest European clubs.
Wernbloom went on to praise the Armeytsy attacking style of play and expressed his views on the upcoming third league round.
“CSKA play in a disciplined manner. There play attacking football that can be compared with an English outfit. I think we have good chances to claim a first place.” Wernbloom said
