CSKA Moscow recovered from a nightmare start of two defeats in the opening two games in the ongoing Russian Premier League campaign by recording back-to-back victories against Anzhi Makhachkala, Mordovia Saransk and Krylia Sovetov
Samara.
The Armeytsy general director, Roman Babaev, has lent support to the Koni’s head coach, Leonid Slutsky, insisting that the former Uralan Elista manager deserved credit for turning the tables around after a below par start to the
Russian championship.
Babaev revealed that CSKA were haunted by bad luck after losing out several key players to injuries. With Tomas Necid out for at least nine months and Seydou Doumbia recovering from Hernia after limped off the field during the
Koni’s 1-0 win over Anzhi at home.
Doumbia had a terrific campaign last term, having scored 28 goals in 42 league appearances last season. The Ivorian national is currently recovering from a latest injury after operating his hernia in Germany.
CSKA tried to sign Matias Suarez, who was likely to join the Russian outfit from Anderlecht for a reported 11 million pounds, thinking that the Argentine striker might be used as a cover to their striking crisis.
However, the former Belgrano player’s move hit the rocks after Suarez failed to pass his medical at Luzhniki stadium. News in Russian media suggests that the 24-year-old attacker will be out of action until the end of this year.
The Belgian outfit has also confirmed that Suarez’s transition to the Moscow-based club is in jeopardy subject to the medical.
Babaev admitted that his side needs to be strengthened this summer, hinting at signing a striker before the end of the transfer window.
The chief urged the fans to remain optimistic about their team’s chances to reach the later stages of the UEFA Europa League and hoped for a better result in the upcoming play-off round second-leg against AIK Fotboll at home.
The Red-blues will play the return leg on the back of a 1-0 win over the Swedish outfit last week.
