CSKA Moscow record their second win in Group B; Beat Brose Baskets 94-74: Euroleague Recap
CSKA Moscow won their second consecutive game of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague with a convincing 94-74 victory over Brose Baskets on October 26, 2011 at Universal Sports Hall in the Russian capital.
Nenad Krstic led the way with 19 points on a perfect 9 for 9 shooting from two-point range. Krstic also grabbed four rebounds and stole the ball twice. Andrey Vorontsevich chipped in 13 points, hitting 3 for 5 from three-point
range, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists while Utah Jazz small forward Andrei Kirilenko ended the night with 12 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Moscow led Brose in nearly all facets of the game. They shot better from the floor, took down 30 rebounds and dished out 25 assists while Brose finished with just 20 rebounds and 14 assists.
CSKA opened the game briskly and forced their preferred style of play on the visiting team, scoring the first seven points of the opening period. Brose defence was all over the place in the first few minutes and that allowed the
Russians to carve out a 19-10 lead with around two minutes to go in the period.
Brose tried hard to remain within striking distance but Moscow maintained their hold and scored five straight points at the end of the quarter to take a ten-point lead into the second frame.
“We allowed the opponent to score some early points and could not catch their rhythm,” said Chris Fleming, the head coach of the Brose Baskets, after the game.
Krstic took over the game in the second quarter, punctuating eight points and allowed Moscow to push their lead to 47-30 at halftime. The one way traffic continued in the second half. CSKA completely ran over the visitors and increases
their lead to 24 points at 77-53, with 8 minutes to go in the final buzzer. From there on, they were never threatened.
Tibor Pleiss led Brose Baskets with 17 points on a 9 for 10 shooting from free throw line while Julius Jenkins had 15 points and three assists in the loss. PJ Tucker totalled 10 points and six rebounds for Brose, who dropped to
1-1 in the season.
