CSKA Moscow continued their undefeated run in the Group B of the Euroleague tournament after romping to an 89-47 win over KK Zagreb at the Zagreb Arena, Croatia. The Russians now have a 3-0 record while the Croats slipped to 0-3.
Four Moscow players reached double figures on the night. Nenad Krstic once again led the way with 15 points on a 7 for 10 shooting from two-point range and grabbed five rebounds. Andrey Vorontsevich hammered 12 points, shooting
4 for 6 from downtown, grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball twice while Sammy Mejia drilled in 10 points and made two steals.
"I’m very happy; we played a good game. We kept our concentration for almost the entire 40 minutes and played very good defense, CSKA Moscow Head Coach Jonas Kazlauskas said of their combined team effort.
KK Zagreb played the game without their key player, Sean May. In his absence, Krunoslav Simon led them with 15 points and pulled down five rebounds as well. Mario Kasun also chipped in 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
CSKA were without doubt the dominant team on the floor, on both the ends. The visiting team fed of the Zagreb’s cold shooting and never even gave them a sniff.
Zagreb opened the first quarter on a 4-0 run but could not maintain their hold as the Russians responded with 16 unanswered points to take a 16-4 lead with four minutes to go in the opening period. KK did not get any closer than
10 points for rest of the quarter as CSKA carried a 22-13 lead into the second. In the second quarter, CSKA once again came out in full force and outscored the hosts 23-11, pushing their lead to 21-point at halftime.
The one sided show continued in the third frame. The Russian continued to run over Zagreb’s defense and entered the final stanza with a huge 31 point cushion. The onslaught didn’t stop though. After the Croatians countered some
of the CSKA’s scoring spree in the first four minutes of the frame, the Russians went berserk and closed out the game on an 18-4 run – a befitting end to a dominant outing.
