CSKA Moscow’s Leonid Slutsky happy to win the Russian Premier League – Football news
CSKA Moscow head coach, Leonid Slutsky, could not hide his emotions after winning the Russian Premier League title following their 0-0 draw in the latest league tie against Kuban Krasnodar at Luzhniki stadium on Saturday.
“It’s really a great achievement. Not too many coaches in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 became champions,” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
A well earned point at the weekend against the Krasnodar-based club helped the Russian outfit in becoming the champions and made Slutsky the third youngest coach to win it since the Russian championship began.
The Moscow-based club celebrated their fourth league title at the weekend despite leading second placed Zenit St. Petersburg by just three points and with a game to play, given that Luciano Spalletti’s men cannot overhaul CSKA’s total wins for the season.
The Armeytsy have already recorded 20 wins during the ongoing campaign while Zenit, on the other hand, wrapped up 18 until now.
Slutsky has hailed his side’s character and admitted that he is proud to coach such a magnificent team containing brave players who showed nerves of steel despite experiencing a lot of pressure lately.
“We retained the lead after the seventh-round, but they made the ending of the championship a bit hard for us. We became nervous at time and had to deal with some staffing problems. I am grateful to the guys who showed real character. I am very proud to
be a coach of this team,” he said. “Against Kuban, we tried to start aggressively. In the end, we realized that a point will be enough and stopped playing offensively. Furthermore, it was difficult to play in a warm climate.”
Slutsky went on to thank the fans for their immense support during all the years since he has been named manager at Moscow, saying that it would have been difficult without their support.
CSKA will now play the final league fixture of the ongoing campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Rostov-c39192 at Rostov-on-don. Currently, they are atop the league table with 64 points and leading Zenit by three points.
