Do any trains still run on the Hanover sub all the way from Hagerstown MD to Hanover PA to Baltimore? The tracks from Hanover east to Baltimore are severely deteriorated and it ultimately ties into the extended light rail they have there. Any data on that? Thanks!

  1. There is still some service on the York, PA portion of the track with a trail running adjacent to the tracks.

The MD side north of Cockeysville was swept away by Hurricane Agnes in 1972.  The state converted those 20 miles of track to a popular rail trail.

I believe that the line remains active north of York to Harrisburg and Sunbury, PA.

As for the line coming east of Hagerstown, I believe most of that track is active into PA and Frederick County, MD.

There are paper mills, potato chip plants and Hanover vegetables which receive rail service.
