Number one in most cults is to isolate the individuals from the family and friends

It depends on the cults.

What distinguishes cults from other groups is the extreem control the leader or group has.

There are cults that have rules governing the feelings members are allowed to feel (extreem!), and what thoughts they're allowed to entertain.

They often have rules about what to wear -- the specifications varying from cult to cult.

One of the defining features is complete submission to the leader: the leader is always right, and can never be wrong or mistaken in any way. Everything the leader says is true.
