Question:

CV for postgraduate university application?

I am in currently in my final undergraduate year and I am trying to put together my application for postgraduate study at the same university. In the application guidelines it says that applicants should include a CV with their application. Since it's the same university at which I'm currently studying I don't need to include my academic results because the department has access to them. I really doubt that the application committee would be interested in the casual jobs I've had during and since high school (e.g. waitering) and those are the only kinds of jobs I've had. So I am wondering what I'm supposed to include in my CV seeing as I don't have any relevant work experience and the people who process the application have access to my academic record. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

  1. a CV includes all the details.... the admissions team does not want to have to go digging around for your 'academic results'. This is not to say that you should put a course-by-course listing of your grades (thatis on your transcript) but you should summarize your undergrad program (i.e. 3 course sequence in basketweaving)

There are thousands of CVs on line that you can look at, and 100s of places where there is CV authoring advice. I suggest that you do some digging, as would be expected of a graduate student...... Grad level profs don't provide answers: they tell you to look it up and synthesize what you have found into your own new knowledge, then summarize it.

  2. A CV is an additional requirement for everybody because it shows who you are and not just the details you put in your CV are important but so is the way you present yourself. I don't think your school would look into your records and they probably expect you to put down your academic history in detail. You would also have to include the job experience you have even if you have only had casual jobs so far (don't go into the details though, just show that you have worked).
