CWD found in Michigans deer herd?

CWD was recently found in a deer held in a high fenced hunting preserve here in Michigan. Our DNR is planning an aggressive plan to eradicate the disease, which I think is good but the deer was held in captivity and did not have contact with wild deer, now our DNR is changing all the rules and banning baiting as a result, they are thinking of amping up deer quotas to thin the herd in a massive area around this infected deer,I'm happy with them for acting but cant help but feel like they are taking this a little too far,my question is for other hunters in states where CWD is present,How did it affect your hunting?did your state wildlife agency go crazy and thin the deer herd to much? Please let me know what to expect, also if there is any one else, perhaps from Michigan, let me know what you think or have heard?thanks

  1. Illinois now has CWD in a number of counties in north western Illinois near Rockford area. Has had it there for a number of years but it is finally getting into the county I live in with one reported case last season in Grundy county.

I hunt in Pike county and so far there have been no cases there. Our current problem with CWD started in southern Wisconsin and has come into Illinois .

Illinois DNR has not gone to any great lengths on this as far as I know. They may have had a kill season in parts of Illinois and I think they discussed it but unknown if it ever happened.

Apparently the population is up a lot in Pike county since I haven't heard of anyone being denied a secondary permit and out-of state doe- only price has gone down. I think the only thing that is stopping a cull season is problems with political groups against hunting. Otherwise, I think it would have happened.
