It seems as if this times the Indian government is really determined at punishing the culprits for their wrong doings, because if it wasn’t, one after the other, Commonwealth Games organising committee’s officials would not have appeared before the media
to clear their positions.
Just a few days back Chief of CWG organising committee Suresh Kalmadi denied all the alleged corruption he and his associates had indulged into while conducting the biggest sporting event in the history of the country. And this time it’s his Secretary General
Lalit Bhanot who has refused to accept the charges after CBI raided his house in search of potential evidences.
The CBI has been diligently carrying out searches at 11 different premises, two of which include the residences of Bhanot and V K Verma, the OC Director General, to have a clue of reportedly Rs. 107 Crores of corruption. The financial breach was reported
to be made while installing the Games’ result update system.
Airing his point of view over the issue which had been creating hype in the local media since October, Bhanot said: “They wanted to search the house and did it. They were very nice and professional. They did their job whatever they wanted to see we showed
them everything because I don’t hide anything.”
The secretary general of the CWG organising committee further stated they he and his family extended complete cooperation when CBI conducted the raid, and provided each and every file they asked for. The top Indian sports’ body official who is now also the
secretary general of the athletics federation of India made it clear before the media personnel that each and every decision related to the Commonwealth Games was taken while having the top government officials on board.
Taking the opportunity, he emphatically stressed upon the fact that they were completely transparent, and whatever decision was taken by his office, it took the board into confidence while also having members from government as well as of other various Federation
and Olympic committees keeping a close eye over the entire functioning of the body.
