when you buy a motorcycle from a friend and he hasn't registered in 3 years, once you go and registered the bike will you be charged late fees and penalties or will you just paid the fee for new registration?

  1. Before you go to the DMV, make sure you have the signed pink (ownership) slip and the most current registration.

    If the bike has not been on the street for the time it wasn't registered, you will not have to pay back fees or penalties. Make sure you take the bike home in some other vehicle, and don't ride it or you will have to pay a penalty.

    The DMV may give you a 'Statement of Facts' , that you'll have to have signed by the person you bought the bike from. It'll say on it that the bike hasn't been on the street and so on.
