  1. My personal preference is Macbook!  No question! As far as stability, Mac wins hands down.

If you are going to do word processing, surfing, itunes, email, games, etc, (like students, academics, moms,  ;-)  get a Macbook.  Macbooks come with all kinds of software (browser, mail, itunes, ichat, imovie, and cool stuff like that) and no c**p like Windows stuffs in there.  And the user interface is more "logical" on a Mac.

If you are a heavy gamer, you might want to get a Windows machine, since more games are available for Windows. (although we have never had any trouble getting any game or program that we wanted for Mac).  Microsoft Office is avail for Mac OS (as are some freeware versions of Office, like Open Office), and my DH has shared and edited files with Windows users with no problems at all.

The only problem I've found is that we can't watch Netflix *online* with  our Mac (yet).

  2. pretty much. Some features that Mac has that Windows doesn't can be replaced with free programs. Just look around PC World.com

  3. you could go with the free stuff which is awesome but if you need the files to be compatible with a computer lab at school or a library you can actually get pc emulation software for a mac, so you can be trendy but still have your windows goodness http://www.iemulator.com/ just one example

  4. Really depends what programs you want to use.

But no, Macs can not replace Windows.  Macs have big incompatibility problems.

    Get the HP.

  5. The short answer is yes. The long answer is no. If you know that you will only be using you computer in mostly the same fashion as everyone else, surfing the internet, using programs like Microsoft Office, and other simple tasks, then a mac can do all of those thing quite well. Chances are that there is a mac version of just about every program out there and mac knows that their programs need to be compatible with the windows version. That being said, if you absolutely need a super specialized program that only works on windows, then windows will have to do. I have a mac, but I also have an engineering program that is essential to my job. I get around it by using Boot Camp. That way I have the best of both worlds. As for the laptop itself, they're both good, but you can't beat the usability of a macbook.

  6. macs are a bit different than pc's. to my knowledge, i don't think that apple computers have the ctrl+c to copy and the ctrl+v to paste but instead you have to right click to copy and paste, witch annoyed me so much about apple (i really didn't have enough time to play with it to see if i could turn the feature on). apples also do not have as much as compatibility as pc's do but they are getting better at it. if you are wanting to play games then go with a pc but if your looking for a computer to make movies then go buy an apple. it all depends on your tastes really.

  7. well, macs suck for games and stuff like that, but if you're going to just be on the internet and typing documents, then i would suggest a mac. they don't get viruses and they have some cool applications like garage band and photo booth. just depends on what you need.

  8. Yes! Of course! Get the Mac Book. You will NOT regret it! :D
