The Toffees beat the Tyneside outfit 3-1, with the game ending in a violent squabble between both the players. Cahill was shown a Red Card by the match referee Andre Marriner for grabbing the Frenchman by the throat. Cabaye received a Yellow Card for his
part in the fight.
However, the 26-year old tendered his apology after the game admitting that the frustration and disappointment of the moment got the better of him during the crucial league fixture.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I would like to apologise for the cross words I exchanged with Tim Cahill which resulted in his red card and my booking on the final whistle. It was unnecessary and, regrettably, the result of frustration and disappointment,
all in the heat of the moment It is out of character and for that I am sorry.”
The defeat for the Magpies on Sunday also meant that they also failed to qualify for the Champions League competition next season, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham Hotspur securing the third and the fourth place respectively. However, they finished the table on
the fifth spot and hence grabbed a place in the Europa League next season.
Nevertheless, the midfielder viewed the Magpies entire season as a successful one, which has seen them cross the 50 points tally for the first time since the 2003/04 season and finish ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the table.
He also shrugged aside the notion that he plans on parting ways with the club in the summer, and mentioned that he was looking forward towards playing a part in the Magpies next season.
He continued, “We have had a fantastic season at Newcastle United and already I look forward to next season, the Premier League and the Europa League.”
Cabaye was also in awe for the club’s fans and thanked them for all their support throughout the season.
“Finally, a huge thank you to our fans who have been magnificent all season.” He added.
