Newcastle United midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 admits disappointment at the club’s lacklustre start to the Premier League season, and insists that they can do better and have to improve if they wish to climb up the league table.
The French midfielder joined the Magpies last season from French outfit Lille, and has grown in prominence ever since he moved to Tyneside.
His impressive form and performances for the club led to his regular starting place in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 national team and his call-up for the Euro 2012 tournament this summer.
Cabaye was in good form for his national side, and became a highly coveted and sough after midfielder following the European tournament. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Manchester United were strongly linked with the player, but he laid all speculation to rest
by committing his future to Newcastle.
This season has not seen the Frenchman perform up to his usual standards, and he himself was keen on admitting it. However, Cabaye has recently re-discovered the form that he displayed last season which ultimately helped Newcastle finish at 5th
in the 2011/2012 Premier League campaign.
Newcastle are currently in 10th, and have been far from convincing in their recent games, despite managing a string of decent results. Cabaye is hoping his side can improve following their unimpressive start to the campaign, and is ready to step
up.
Last week, the Magpies lost to West Ham at home, which marked their second home defeat of the season. They have managed draws against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 and Tottenham, but failed to deliver against the bigger teams.
The former Lille man believes that his side need to do better if they want to build upon last season’s 5th place finish. Speaking to the club’s official website, Cabaye said:
“It has not been bad, but it has not been good either. We have played well but we can play better than we have done.”
“Every game has been tough and we have had a lot of injuries and suspensions. It seems like every game we are missing a big player for one reason or another.”
“That has made things difficult but we need to keep our confidence and keep working hard, because if we stop working then it will be very difficult to get up towards the top of the league again.”
