  1. Satellite. Direct TV

Had Dishnetwork and it was more prone to go out with bad weather (and it took more than just a typical rain storm). Switched to Direct and have not had the service go out once. I think it depends on where you are if the weather will affect signal cause it has never been much of an issue for me and people seem to always bring up weather when comparing the two but how would they know if they have cable?

With satellite, you will have a program guide on all TV's. Cable, you will have to pay for the extra box if you want it. I love having the program guides.

Also, once your in a satellite contract, the monthly fees stay that way for the term of the contract. Isn't cable known for going up often?

  2. You get more channels on satellite and the packages are cheaper, but cable gives you better on demand services and it doesn't loose it's signal quality when the weather is bad. Cable providers can also give you good deals on cable internet (much better than ADSL) or telephone services if you also have cable TV.

I've got cable because I can't mount a satellite dish on my wall, but I know people who got satellite dishes because they lives in areas that weren't covered by a good cable company.

  3. i would recommend cable as satelite mini dishes can become damaged espiscally in a storm .With cable all the copper wiring is all underground

    try cable

  4. Cable signal transmission mode requires you to hook into a coaxial cable network in your area in much the same way as you do for your telphone service. Satellite requires you to have an Antenna(Aerial) which is saucer shaped (Parabola) to connect to on your property to connect to with coaxial cable. Both systems require you to have a set top box to access and decode the programme transmissions.  The satellite box also provides DC voltage to the LNB via the connecting coaxial cable to the headend on the satellite dish. Cable is called Terrestrial because it is "Earth Bound". Satellite transmission of course is not.

Your choice of the two services will depend upon various reasonings.  If you  are not the home owner, will the landlord permit erection of a  SATELLITE?  dish.    Is there a place to put one anyway, on the building or within the grounds?

Which service provider offers the programmes you prefer to access and at what monthly cost?   Either technology will generally give great variety and viewing image quality unless your location adversely impacts that.

Of course if money is no object and you have the facilities...you can have both.    We do, and guess what? There is so much in the way of programmes to choose from we more often than not use local TV free to air and the odd DVD hire to fill in the MINIMAL time left for "entertainment" in our oh so busy little lives!

  5. cable

  6. Cable if it rains a lot where you live.  Satellite if you are more rural in your home location and cable is not already wired to your area.  Satellite has much better pictures.  But if you cannot watch it in the rain how are you going to know how bad the storms are?  Especially hurricanes and tornados.
