I just got my desktop back working. My router is in another room so I plugged in a USB wireless adapter to pick up the router on my desktop. It works well, but when I'm trying to play a game online I need to connect the ethernet cable because the game won't load wirelessly but when I have the ethernet cable plugged in it says the connection is good but I can't even get on websites it says its not. What do I do?

I've tried everything, the wireless USB will let me connect but my ethernet cable won't and it says its connected to the internet when its plugged in.

  1. Unplug your router and modem for 10 seconds to "reboot" them.  Then reboot your computer.  This fixes things like that most of the time.

If that doesn't fix the problem, call the manufacturer of the USB adapter.

I don't know what brand yours is but I had a cheap Netgear one and it didn't work so I had to exchange for the next cheapest ($10 more) Linksys adapter which fixed the problem.
