Question:

Cablevision removing channels?

I saw Cablevision made A&E, Travel, and Animal Planet only viewable for the digital TV. Sites all over the web say its to ease in the switch to digital in 2009, and I believe them. Will Cablevision do this to anymore channels in the future?

  1. They also did this to TLC and E! ugh I'll miss E! News.

  2. I think that they will continue to move analog channels to digital. Their competition FIOS has gone all digital on LI, and of course the satellites are already digital.

They can fit several digital channels in the same bandwidth as a single analog channel. This frees-up space for the addition of more HD channels. Not to mention that the digital channels provide a better picture.

It has nothing to do with the 2009 change. In fact, they are required to carry analog versions of the locally available over the air TV (which is the only TV being changed on 2/17/09) or provide converter boxes until 2012.

FIOS has been handing out converter boxes to analog customers at no charge.
