Question:

Caddy job?

I'm starting a job as a caddy this coming week. I've played golf twice before in my life. I know which clubs are the driver, putter, sand trap, but the others I don't. I don't know what I should expect. I never was really that interested in golf. I found it fun when I played it but I'm a long time hockey player so the change was kinda difficult haha. But anyway, anyone who's been a caddy or had a caddy before...what should I know? What should I expect? Hows the pay? (I heard its good which is why I'm doing it in the 1st place)

  1. there is sooooo much more to the game than can be put here.  My late father played Augusta in the '70 after being invited.  You have to walk and you have a professional caddy.  This gentleman carried the clubs to the driving range for my father, got him some balls and watched as my father warmed up.  Then at the tee he would start, "Sir, the way that this hole is set up and the prevaling wind I advise that you aim at that tree above the sand trap in the distance and play the fade you hit toward the end of your warm up session."  "Sir, you probably could reach the green with you 8 iron, but the way that it is elevated you probably should use your 7 because the pin is in the back." "Sir, the putt should break toward the right, toward the water....I would recommend a medium stroke about two balls to the left of the hole.

My advice, carry the bag, give the clubs he asks for, watch where the ball lands so you can find it, wipe each before and after each shot.

It is a lot of work and you will find out the regulars that tip well and learn to avoid the one who don't.  Expect minimum wage plus tips...about $20 at a decent club.  You may not get that much if you can't provide good advice or make a mistake like not being able to find your golfers ball.

  2. well it all depends how old you are and what kind of club that you caddy at. A fancy club could pay up to 100 bucks a round. But If its your first time they will probably have you shadow someone, meaning you follow them around and watch everything that they do, so next time you can go out by your self.:)

Good Luck, Its a blast! best job ive ever had.
