Cadel Evans all set to defend his Tour de France title
Reigning Tour de France champion, Cadel Evans has noted that riding the tour as a defending champion makes things lot easier.
The cyclist was relaxed and calm while making his final appearance in front of press before the start of the Tour de France.
The Australian struggled during the earlier part of the season but showed tremendous improvement in the past two months.
His current season performances include an overall victory, the point’s classifications and a stage 2 win at the Criterium International.
Evans also managed the point’s classifications and a stage 1 win at the Criterium du Dauphine along with a third overall finish at the Criterium du Dauphine 2012.
While commenting on his last year’s win he briefed that, it was the best feeling of his professional career and it would be even better if he makes it through this time round.
Cadel briefed that, his current form is good enough to help him securing the second overall victory at the Tour de France.
He holds as many as seven Tour de France appearances throughout his career and has managed to finish at the podium on three occasions.
He finished second during the 2008 and the 2009 versions of the race and secured the top overall spot in the most recent version of the French event.
"I feel ready and I think that everyone here feels ready and that's particularly important… I'm very pleased with the guys we have,” Evans noted.
“We had a very good team last year and I think that this year we'll be even stronger in the mountains thanks especially to Tejay [Van Garderen]”.
“We have a good group of guys who can perform at the highest level, but who are also relaxed and ready and motivated".
“Winning one Tour was great so I'm guessing that winning two would be even better”.
The 35-year-old finished 17 second behind the race leader, Fabian Cancellara during the opening stage of the Tour de France 2012 and occupied the 13th overall position.
Fabian Cancellara wins the event with Bradley Wiggins, Sylvain Chavanel, Tejay van Garderen and Edvald Boasson Hagen finishing at the next four positions.
