Cadel Evans dropped from the Tour of Flanders 2012 squad
Cadel Evans is the only successful cyclist for Team BMC in the 2012 season. The Australian grabbed the first victory for his side during the French race Criterium International.
He claimed the second stage of the race and also finished first after the final general classifications.
He briefed after crossing the finish-line, "The young guys started out and I think for them it was an honour for them to ride in a part of France with the yellow jersey in the team and so I'm happy for them".
"Those young guys are coming back into some good times after some bad times", he concluded.
He further added, "I'm programmed as a general classification rider so of course I want to take the yellow to the end of the race and the team worked very, very well today".
Cadel is not included in the final team’s squad for the Tour of Flanders and will ride the Ardennes classics instead.
He will be seen at the supporting role for Philippe Gilbert at the Ardennes Classics and the Tour of Romandie.
Alessandro Ballan, Marcus Burghardt, Philippe Gilbert, George Hincapie, Thor Hushovd, Manuel Quinziato, Michael Schär and Greg Van Avermaet will represent the American team at the Tour of Flanders 2012.
Evans started riding professionally with Team Volvo-Cannondale in 1999 and joined Team Saeco Macchine per Caffe in 2001.
He also represented Team Mapei-Quick Step (2002), Team Telekom (2003-04), Team Davitamon-Lotto (2005-09) and finally joined Team BMC in the 2010 season.
The 35-year-old helped the Australian team with a number of victories during his stay with the side.
Evans finished first during the Tour de France 2011 and is determined to make it his second consecutive victory at the race.
He is now looking ahead to capitalise on his current form for the 2012 version of the French Grand Tour.
The cyclist has also shown interest in riding the 2012 Olympic Games, which are scheduled right after the Tour de France.
Team BMC is badly in need of some victories and it is hopeful that Philippe Gilbert and Thor Hushovd will help the team during the Tour of Flanders 2012 scheduled in April 2012.
