Cadel Evans happy with Team BMC performance at the Tour de France 2012
Reigning Tour de France champion, Cadel Evans is eyeing his second overall victory at the biggest cycling race of the season, the Tour de France 2012.
The cyclist had a slow start to his 2012 campaign but picked up his form in the later part of the season.
He is currently holding the sixth overall position after the stage 6 classifications with a total deficit of 17 seconds on the race leader.
Fabian Cancellara took on the first overall spot right after the prologue stage of the race and has not looked back since then.
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling was the pre-race favourite and the British has lived up to the expectations.
He is only 7 seconds behind Cancellara with Sylvain Chavanel, Tejay van Garderen of Team BMC and Denis Menchov of Team Katusha holds the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
The Australian is marking his eighth appearance at the French race and is in great shape to secure his second overall victory at the race.
He restricted Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck during the 2011 version of the race and managed to grab his first win at the biggest cycling event of the year.
Evans is excited about the coming stages of the race and is really looking forward to the sixth and the seventh stages of the race.
"Normally the first mountains are a good indicator of who's climbing well and therefore, who will be there in the other mountains," the Australian said.
Team BMC Sports Director John Lelangue is also happy with Team BMC’s performance during the opening stages.
“We've done a good first week, which was quite a nervous week after all," he commented.
"We're happy to arrive in a bit of a different landscape now. It will be a first test to have this transitional, medium mountain stage with a nice uphill finish”.
“It will be significant. It's true that it will not be the most challenging mountaintop finish at this Tour, but it will render some first information".
Team BMC currently occupies the third overall position after the stage 6 classifications with Team Sky Procycling and Team RadioShack-Nissan holding the first and the second positions respectively.
