Cadel Evans not accepting Thor Hushovd – Cycling News
Thor Hushovd who is nicknamed as ‘The God of Thunder’ had a good 2011 Tour de France, has signed with team BMC for the coming seasons. The 33-year-old won three stages in the Tour including the stage 2, stage 13 and stage 16 and also wore the overall leader’s
jersey from stage 2 to stage 8 in the recent Tour.
Hushovd was content on signing with the new team as he said, “It’s a serious team where it looks like everything is well-organised and everyone knows what to do."
On the other hand, winner of the Tour de France, 2011 Cadel Evans who has recently celebrated the victory in Melbourne suggested that he is not willing to share the team’s leadership with Hushovd, as he is planning to go for the Tour win in 2012.
Cadel further added that he has discussed it with Jim Ochowicz who is president of the team BMC as he mentioned, “I said: ‘Look Jim, you want to bring a sprinter to the team, I don’t want to ride with a sprinter, because I’ve done that and I’ve done my share.
If I do the Tour I want to do it for win.’”
Evans mentioned that if Hushovd is coming to the team it means that he is coming under those conditions as Jim has acknowledged the concerns raised by him.
Cadel believes that he is fully in shape and can win the Tour next year and for that he needs full support of team and with an addition of sprinter like Hushovd it seems difficult. He also mentioned that the only point of having new guys in the team was
to have some stage wins early on in the tour and not to rely only on him.
Thor who has won a total of ten stage victories in the Tour de France including two Tour wins is likely to lead the team BMC with the Australian but Cadel is not willing to share the leadership as he wants the concentration on him solely and wants the whole
team to support him. Hushovd was delighted after signing the deal with BMC and has not shown any reaction after the comments made by Cadel Evans.
