Cadel Evans on track for his Tour de France campaign
Cadel Evans of Team BMC started the 2012 season rather slowly but the cyclist seemed to have picked the right pace ahead of his major goal of the season, the Tour de France 2012.
The Australian has participated at the French Grand Tour for a total number of seven times and had numerous close finishes in the past seasons of the race.
Cadel secured an eighth overall position during his debut appearance at the contest back in 2005 and boosted his performance in the next three editions of the event.
Evans finished 4th during in 2006 and occupied the second overall position in the 2007 and the 2008 versions of the race.
The 35-year-old rode at the most recent edition of the French Grand Tour and restricted Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck at the second and the third positions.
Cadel also succeed during the stage 4 of the race and held the polka dot jersey through stages 4-5.
He finished the race in a total time of 86 hours, 12 minutes and 22 seconds with a lead of 1 minute and 34 seconds over Andy Schleck and 2 minutes and 30 seconds over Frank Schleck.
Evans started his 2012 winning crusade with a stage 2 victory at the Criterium International and also succeeded at the point’s classifications of the race.
He secured the first overall position after the final general classifications at the race and overcame Pierrick Fedrigo and Michael Rogers for the second and the third spots.
The cyclist is currently seen in action at the Criterium du Dauphine 2012 which is an ideal opportunity to find the right form ahead of the Tour de France.
Cadel has shown tremendous legs at the French race and has already bagged the first stage of the race.
“It shows that the work I’ve been doing is good but we’ve still got a lot of work to do and some improvements to make before we get to the Tour,” he briefed after crossing the finish line.
“There’s still a long way to the Tour. That’s the race most guys are preparing for”.
“I’m just trying to concentrate on my own race and I stayed safe today in the front and felt good”.
  Tour de France 2012 is scheduled from June 30 to July 22 and Evans is confident to register his second consecutive victory at the event.
