Cadel Evans on track for the Tour de France 2012
Cadel Evans of Team BMC is pursuing his form at the Criterium du Dauphine and the cyclist is looking good at the second overall post after the stage 2 classifications.
The Australian is eyeing the Tour de France as the major goal of his 2012 season and is working hard to find the right form ahead of the race.
He helped Team BMC with a final general classifications victory at the Tour de France and is optimistic to make it happen for the team in the second consecutive season.
Evans rode brilliantly during the previous edition of the French race and restricted the Schleck brothers at the second and the third positions during the race.
Andy Schleck achieved the second position with a deficit of 1 hour and 34 minutes while his brother Frank finished further 56 seconds behind at the third spot.
Cadel struggled early on the season but found his winning ways with a second stage victory at the Criterium International.
He also occupied the first overall spot after the final general classifications and managed to bag the point’s classifications at the event.
Cadel wins the second stage of the Criterium du Dauphine and currently holds the second overall position after the stage 2 classifications.
He is one second behind the race leader Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling with Andriy Grivko of Team Astana, Carlos Barredo of Team Rabobank and Tony Martin of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep holding the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the
respective order.
Team BMC Manager John Lelangue appreciated Evans’ performance and cited that the Criterium du Dauphine is just a “Dress rehearsal” for Cadel ahead of the Tour de France.
He told Sporza, “It wasn't our intention to deal out a blow to our rivals for the Tour - we want to ride a good Dauphiné".
"We are here with almost our complete Tour squad. It is a good dress rehearsal for us".
"Cadel has a good altitude training camp behind him”.
“His programme was purposely lighter than last year, but he's in good shape already. In three weeks, he will be even much better".
"I don't look at our rivals, only at our own team. And this team is completely on the desired level at the moment".
The Tour de France 2012 is scheduled from June 30 to July 22 and cyclists will cover a gruelling distance of 3,496.9 kilometres during the three-week race.
