Cadel Evans opts to lead Team BMC at the Tour de France 2012
Winner of the Tour de France 2011, Cadel Evans had to share disappointment as he failed to match the likes of Bradley Wiggins in the current version of the race.
The Australian occupied the seventh overall position after the final general classifications with a deficit of 15 minutes and 49 seconds on the race leader.
Bradley Wiggins occupied the top spot and became the first Britain ever to walk home with an overall victory at the race.
Christopher Froome fell 3 minutes and 21 seconds behind at the second position with Vincenzo Nibali, Jurgen Van Den Broeck, Tejay van Garderen and Haimar Zubeldia securing the next four positions.
Tejay Van Garderen occupied the fifth overall position and became the top Team BMC cyclist after the three-week race and also wins the young rider’s classifications, the white jersey.
Cadel appreciated the American’s performance and noted that the cyclist is a real potential and can be really helpful for the 2013 version of the race.
"He's showed his potential and we knew what potential he had," he said.
"I hope that I could offer him some invaluable experience that's going to help him in years to come”.
“I think next year, we'll go one more time for me and then we'll pass over the baton to Tejay".
While commenting on his own chances at the 2013 version of the Tour de France, Evans cited, "I'll come back again 100 percent and better than this year, that's for sure".
"We'll come back hoping for a bigger and better Tour”.
“I still think I have the capability to win and in the end, it's always up to me and that's what matters most".
The 35-year-old holds as many as 13 Grand Tour appearances to his credit including two Giro d’Italia, eight Tour de France and three Vuelta a Espana participations under his belt.
He occupied the second overall position during the 2007 and the 2008 versions of the French race and climbed the top podium spot at the Tour de France 2012.
Cadel is pretty much capable of registering one more overall victory at the Tour de France 2013 and he opts to lead Team BMC at the coming edition of the race.
