Cadel Evans struggling to find form at the Tirreno-Adriatico
Cadel Evans of BMC Racing Team crashed during the 196 kilometre stage 5 of the race, which ruined his chances for the overall victory.
The Australian, who is still struggling to find his first win of the 2012 season, finished the race at the 45th position.
The cyclist is currently holding the 35th overall spot after the stage 5 classifications, while Christopher Horner of Team RadioShack-Nissan is at the overall position.
Roman Kreuziger, Vincenzo Nibali, Rinaldo Nocentini and Michele Scarponi achieved the second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Cadel previously used the Italian race to ensure his best form before the Tour de France 2012.
His sixth stage win and the overall victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico helped him with the biggest success of his career yet.
The 35-year-old grabbed the overall victory at the Tour de France and also achieved the fourth stage of the race.
He dominated the polka dot jersey for the fourth and the fifth stages during the most recent edition of the French Grand Tour.
Team BMC cyclist admitted that he is struggling with his form. He said, "My legs are not as good as they were last year as this time, I'm sure they're getting better and there will be better days".
"But the race is much harder than last year, so that is amplifying the difference between the ones who are in shape and the rest of us," he noted.
Team BMC is having a dry season in terms of the victories and is hoping to open its winning account in the near future.
The American squad is amongst the most expensive teams of the season.
It hired eight new riders on its roster for the 2012 season and even the likes of Philippe Gilbert, Thor Hushovd and Marco Pinotti have failed to register a win for the side.
Evans is looking ahead at the Tour de France as the biggest goal of his 2012 season.
He will receive immense support from the team to secure his second consecutive victory at the French race.
Only time will tell, if Cadel can repeat his last year’s performance to make it two in a row during the 2012 edition of the Tour de France.
