Cadel Evans to lead Team BMC at the Tour de France 2012
Defending Tour de France Champion Cadel Evans is all set to lead Team BMC at the Tour de France 2012.
The Australian struggled during the early part of the season but has now found the right form ahead of the biggest goal of his 2012 season.
He claimed the Individual Time Trial stage 2 of the Criterium International and also bagged the point’s classifications and an overall victory at the race.
Evans was recently seen in action at the Criterium du Dauphine which helped him fine-tuning his form ahead of the French race.
He rode brilliantly during the seven-day race and managed the third overall spot after the final general classifications.
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky occupied the top overall spot during the race with his team-mate Michael Rogers finishing 1 minute and 17 seconds behind at the second position.
Evans finished third at the Criterium du Dauphine and also bagged the point’s classifications and the first stage of the event.
"It was Europcar who put a little bit of pressure on the descent as I think they were familiar with it," Cadel briefed.
"There were gaps in the peloton and the opportunity presented itself to us”.
“It was a long way to the finish and a long shot but sometimes we have to take those opportunities when they come our way and see what we can do with them".
"It certainly wasn't a race-winning move, but it was a possibility to help me at least get out on the podium".
Absence of Bradley Wiggins and Andy Schleck makes this year’s Tour more interesting as it has opened the door for young and inexperienced cyclists.
Evans will face stiff competition from Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky who is in tremendous form and has already beaten Cadel on different occasions in the earlier part of the season.
Tour de France 2012 will be his eighth appearance at the French Grand Tour and the 35-year-old also hold two Giro d’Italia and three Vuelta a Espana participations under his belt.
Cadel has secured the Tour podium on three different occasions and Team BMC cyclist is determined to help his side with a fourth podium  spot in July.
