Cadillac Championship: Hunter Mahan returns to action after a week off – Golf News
Hunter Mahan is back on the course, as he confirmed to play the Cadillac Championship at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) Blue Monster at Doral, Florida.
He took one week off following his win in the opening World Golf Championship of the year, Accenture Match Play Championship.
According to Mahan, he is confident to register the third WGC win of his career through an event that is scheduled to start on Thursday, March 8, 2012.
He was talking to the media on reaching the venue of the second WGC of the year.
He said that he is expecting a similar performance this week, like the one he displayed two weeks ago, because of the experience he has on the course.
“Actually had my best year last year here,” Mahan told reporters. “So I feel like I'm figuring out the course a little bit and I enjoy playing here. It's a fun golf course to play”.
“I am excited to get back out here,” he continued. “I had a week off, and these WGCs are a lot of fun to play. They are the best players in the world and kind of a relaxed week at the same time with only being 70 or so players”.
He concluded, “So, looking forward to it, and feel like my game is in good order, so I can't wait to get the week started”.
When he was asked about his main reason for such a remarkable performance at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, he replied by saying that he recently changed to Ping Nome putter.
The change greatly helped him gaining success, especially against Rory McIlroy in the final.
He added by saying that the new putter helped him aim better and remain consistent in making his putts. Earlier, he always struggled and kept searching for the perfect shots to make the putts.
However, he now does not have to search for the putts. In fact, he knows which shot can help in making a successful putt in the end.
Also, he commented that it may be more of a mental phenomenon. Yet, his confidence recovered with the use of Ping Nome Putter and he will continue using it in his future appearances.
