Cadillac to sponsor World Golf Championships in Florida
Cadillac has emerged as the title sponsor of the World Golf Championships event at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral, Miami, Florida up till 2016. The tournament which was once linked to yellow rental trucks also known as Ryder and the Mustang (Ford) is now
dealing with the Escalade.
The sponsorship has been signed for up till at least 2016 hence the PGA event that takes place in March at the Doral’s TPC Blue Monster will have a different name now. Since Cadillac has taken on its role as the title sponsor, it will now be called World
Golf Championships - Cadillac Championship. Previously, the endorsement of the event was managed by California Technologies. In the early 2000’s it was sponsored by Ford and during 1987-2000 it was supported by Ryder.
The PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said that next Monday meetings will be carried out with the Cadillac Company. The PGA is hoping for Cadillac to extend its sponsorship beyond 2016. They have been expecting the increment for months.
"The reality is anytime you're in a [economic] downturn, it takes longer to get things done,'' Finchem said. “We have performed well in downturns.”
When talking about the TPC Blue Monster event, Finchem said it’s very dear to the PGA. He said there was never any chance that an event would be taken out of the 2011 PGA Tour schedule. "This is a big event in a very important market and a very special golf
course that goes back decades. There was never any chance it wasn't going to happen in 2011. It would've been expensive [without Cadillac].''
The tournament director, Eddie Carbone, said that now that Cadillac is linked to the event, he’s feels like the happiest man in South Florida. This event provides a profit of about $40 Million to the community every year. Now with a big-name sponsor linked
to it, it is bound to be even more beneficial. The company’s vice president, Don Baker, said that the main object of Cadillac is to sell cars. Through this tournament, they reach the right audience and also in the right way. The spectators of event such as
these are affluent customers who are interested in luxury cars such as Cadillac.
Being one of the four WGC Events, this event is surely an important one. With the name recently altered, the Cadillac Championships will take place from March 9th to March 13th 2011.
