I just made an online store at cafepress....and I have a couple of questions. Do you pay them for making your stuff? Why do they need your tax info?Do people actually buy the stuff? what programs do you use to make things? Also what does it mean when you enter in your information when it says make checks payable to;does it mean your bank, or you? Keep in mind I'm only 13.

here's my store, is it good so far? http://www.cafepress.com/sydtaydesigns

  1. You don't exactly pay them for making your stuff, but they take their share of the cost off the top of each item you sell. For example (and I'm making up the numbers here, because I don't remember what any of their actual charges are) say you want them to print t-shirts for you. They would take their fee of, say, $8 from every shirt that you sell. So if you decided to sell the shirts for $10, you would make $2 for each one you sell. If you sell the shirts for $21.50, you'd make $13.50 on each one. The price you set is up to you.

They need your tax info because the money you earn selling things there is income, and if you make enough of it, you will need to pay income tax on it. They report your earnings to the IRS, and you will need to fill out a tax form at the end of the year to settle up with them.

You put your own name where it says "Make checks payable to". Then when it's time to send you the money that you've earned, they will mail you a check made out to you. You'll have to bring it to your bank to cash it or deposit it.

  2. looks good -- but they want your federal tax number so they can report your earnings and yes the check is made out to you
