Caffreys Puppy Classic Final recap
The Caffreys Puppy Classic Final was hosted at Nottingham last night. There were no significant surprises last week in the qualifying heats, and that trend continued in the £7,500 final over 500 metres as even odds favourite, Droopys Oscar, won the race by 3¾ lengths over Tudor Price.
Oscar repeated his impressive performance from last week as he took advantage of his great start to take an early lead in the race. Tudor Prince, at 5-4, did his best to challenge, but fell back after the second bend, and wasn’t able to make up the ground.
Oscar’s win represents yet another victory for trainer, Seamus Cahill. Sunday night at Sittingbourne, Cahill saw his hounds, Sparklee Bernie and Guinness Time, finish first and second in the Kent Derby final. On the same night Jimmy Lollie won the Central Wholesale Produce LTD Sprint for the successful trainer.
Prince had no trouble taking second place by 4¼ lengths over Slick Sorento, who had a clear run, but just wasn’t able to keep up the pace. A 25-1 longshot, Droopys Gianni, finished in fourth place ahead of Blonde Fletch, fifth, and Slick Symphony, who finished last.
The night at Nottingham was closed off with the William Hill Maiden Standard Trophy and the William Hill Ladies Standard, both over 500m.
The Maiden Standard was won by Droopys Bradley, who lost ground on the first bend, but was able to recover in time to pass 1-2 race favourite, Hello Dino, as they approached the finish line. Dino got off to the best start of the group, but just couldn’t hold it as he lost the race by ¾ lengths.
Finishing in third, a huge seven lengths behind Dino, was Cool Blue Barrel. Grafton Mr Moon and Bandicoot Bonnie finished in fourth and fifth respectively. Oisins Record did not race and was not replaced.
The final race of the night saw 8-13 race favourite, Milly Marina, win the Ladies Standard with little difficulty. Marina got the best start of the group from the sixth trap, stayed wide and didn’t look back as she won over Minglers Fly by 3 ¼ lengths. Fly herself had no trouble flying into second, 4 ¼ lengths ahead of third place finisher Klockwork Kyla. Another length behind Kyla in fourth was Shooting Errin, and behind her in fifth was Colarhouse Nell. In last place was Fabulous Passage.
