Hi, I'm going to get a pat rat soon (can't wait!!!!!!!) and we already have a cage that i think will be perfect but i'm not sure about the spacing in the wires. It's the ssame brand as this cage so i think it has the exact same wire spacing. I think it will be fine but i dont want my new pet to escappe so what do you think? Thanks!!!

  1. dont know...

  2. they have comments on the bottom of the page so you can see if people who really bought the cage said it was great

  3. That is a ferret cage, the spacing will be too large most likely.

Super Pet has a rat cage, specifically listed for rats, but WAY too small I think.

The only cage I found that would work I found at petsmart (It is not listed online) and was about 130.00. Oh so worth it my Ratties LOVE it. It's three stories, and they have since changed the design a little so the doors are made better, mine are made with crude springs to hold it shut, it's much nicer now and well worth the money.

I recommend that one, I searched for a LONG time til I found this one.

But whatever cage you use make sure the wire spacing is NO BIGGER than 1/2 an inch on the floors and sides or they will escape or injure themselves.

  4. A good predictor of whether or not a cage is appropriately-sized is to use a cage calculator such as this one:

    http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.sht...

It uses the 2 cu. ft. per rat rule, which I think is the minimum amount of space per rat you should allow for.

That being said, the cage you have picked out can, if the space is used wisely, hold up to 4 rats.

As for bar spacing, 1/2 inch is recommended for females or young rats. I don't know the bar spacing on that particular cage, but an option you might try if the spacing is too wide, is to cover the wired portion of the cage with hardware cloth (which is available at hardware stores by the roll).

A similar cage, with appropriate bar spacing is this one: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Also, I hope you're planning on getting more than one rat. Rats do best in same s*x pairs. Here is some information that you might find useful while you research your future pet:

Good luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of rats!

  5. The wire spacing might be too large. I hope the cage you have is at least that large or larger? Rats need large, multi-level cages.

Also, please do not get a single rat. They MUST be kept in same s*x pairs or groups. They are too social to be kept alone.
