Former Everton midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Cahill-c35085 unravelled his excitement upon joining the Major Soccer League outfit, New York Red Bulls.
The Australian International struggled last season to cement his place at Everton, remaining a second-choice option for the Toffees manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes.
Earlier, he was strongly linked with making a switch to the Saudi Arabian side Al Nasr, and was also reportedly seen in the stands, during Guizhou Renhe’s FA Cup match in July.
However, following weeks of talks between the Merseyside club and the Red Bulls, the midfielder’s transfer to the American outfit was officially announced on the 26th of July.
The Metros will now seek clearance from FIFA for the player’s transfer deal.
Talking of his move to the MLS, the 32-year old viewed it as a ‘new chapter’ in his career, and believed that the American league was fast becoming a lucrative option for a lot of players.
He also let out his aim of helping his team win their first MLS title, and was impressed with what the club had achieved over the last couple of years.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I am very happy to start a new chapter of my career with the New York Red Bulls… I am impressed with what the Red Bulls are trying to accomplish in MLS and within American soccer and I am looking forward to this new
challenge. I will do everything I can to help bring New York its first MLS Cup.”
Cahill, who capped 278 appearances for the Toffees over a period of eight years, won the club’s best player of the season award at the end of the 2004/05 season. Back in 2006, he was also nominated by FIFA as one of the 50 nominees for the Ballon d’Or accolade.
The midfielder revealed that he took the decision of parting ways with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 with utmost difficultly, keeping in view his lengthy spell at Merseyside, and that playing for the Toffees was a ‘privilege’ for him.
He added, “I also want to thank everyone at Everton, from the club to tremendous supporters. It has been a privilege to be an Everton player.”
