Which is the better education if not going to public schools ( I live in Louisiana and refuse to send my kids to the public schools here, most are horrible). I am looking for quality of material and an atmosphere conducive to learning

  1. Do not homeschool. you will lose your hair, and your kids will become socially abnormal and alienated from the rest of the youth their age. Also, they will miss out on all the experiences that school has to offer (other than academics) like pals to eat lunch with, school activities, teamwork and being able to put themselves in perspective  with the real world around them.

    Catholic schools are a better choice than homeschooling, but be aware the message they teach and the way they teach it. I have had plently of friends, once they were immersed in the Catholic school ideology I could not relate to them anymore and those schools are full of very clique oriented folks who are often narrowminded and one-sided.

  2. Well I may just be biased, (haha) but I would definately say send your kids to Catholic school! I've gone to Catholic school all my life and I've enjoyed it so much. The environment is great and because there are uniforms none of the kids are picked on for the way they dress. The kids grow up with morals, and tend to be much better behaved. In confirmation class, you can tell which kids are from public and which kids are from Catholic. Most of the public schoolers don't even know basic prayers! Also, it is said (and proven with national test scores) that Catholic schoolers are much more advanced in math and reading skills, and the kids grow up in a caring environment. The children start and end their day with prayer, and leave 8th grade with a greater understanding of their faith, and a stronger love of others. The teachers care about every one of the students and know each of them and all of their siblings. Everybody knows eachother, and the kids grow up with each other (the same classes from pre-k to 8th) so they form close bonds. The children are respectful to their teachers and eachother, and the environment is just so much better for learning. Plus, from what I  see, everyone loves it there. (as do I) I really say go for Catholic schools! All the extra money is worth it!

    Catholic school vs Private-catholic is better because of the Catholic morals, and kindness

    Catholic vs Homeschooling--DON'T homeschool your children! The kids wont learn how to socialize and make friends, and they will have a better environment to learn in a school building!

    However, it is your choice, and whatever your situation is, do what is best for you. If you are in a tight situation money wise, all three of those options are extremely expensive! But I say with Catholic school, you will be getting the most for your money! =D

    Good Luck,

    I hope I helped,

    Trisha =D

    ps--also take into consideration what your children's friends are doing, try and get them into the same school! That would make school more fun for them!

  3. I go to a Catholic school in Louisiana and I have to say I learned alot, the teachers are helpful, most of them are nice, and alot of the courses are collage prep, good atmosphere I do feel safe there, very strict uniform and rules, honors courses are offered but I think they have high standards to getting in them, good discipline ( but sometimes punishments are harsh or lenient), a newly revised handbook to improve discipline and harshness of punishments. I do agree that the public schools in my parish are bad because of the what I heard about them and the fact my parents are both teachers with one of them still teaching in the public school system. If I knew what parish you were in I might be able to help you more.

  4. Well, you know the atmosphere for homeschooling, although I've heard anecdotal evidence from parents who say that once they start homeschooling, they radically change the way they run the house to make a distraction-free room and time for the homeschooling. Just remember to find a group or way for the kids to interact socially - something that they learn automatically in high school.

    I'm a proponent of Catholics schools - you can't beat the discipline and morality instilled there. Now, if you have access to specific charter schools, taht's a thought. Consider what you'd like for your kids, and what the kids want for themselves (college prep, or are they going to marry right after high school?), and see what there is to offer.
