Cai Shen to bolt through the Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) at Royal Ascot
Cai Shen and Bridgefield are two interesting competitors in the line-up of 30 runners in the Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) at Royal Ascot on 20th June, 2012.
Both of these runners will attempt to notch the victory in the 1 mile race for £77,813, but the question is which one of them will bring their best game forth and down the race?
Cai Shen, trained by Richard Hannon, has the potential to win and his good form will back him up, since he has claimed placed finishes in the two starts that he has competed in this season.
The chestnut colt finished second to Chris Wall’s charge, Premio Loco, in the Group 3 Blue Square Winter Derby at Lingfield on 24th March, 2012.
Cai Shen lost by a small margin of half-length, coupled with jockey, Jamie Spencer over 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
The son of Iffraaj, out of mare Collada, has an impressive record in which he has claimed four victories, finished thrice as a runner-up, and thrice in third place in his thirteen starts.
The four-year-old closed his previous season in a brilliant fashion, when he claimed a half-length victory over, Zeitoper, in the Coopers Marquees Conditions Stakes at Doncaster in September, 2011, over 1 mile and 2 ½ furlongs.
Today, he will ride under the command of jockey, Richard Hughes, and will enter the race from post 1.
Bridgefield, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, has not scored a victory since July, 2011, when he competed in the 1 mile Portland Place Properties Conditions Stakes at Newmarket and defeated the Richard Hannon trained, Casual Glimpse.
It seems that the chestnut colt lost his fervour after that, and hasn’t delivered a race that matches the caliber of the aforementioned race.
The son of Speightstown, out of mare Treysta, finished second to, City Style, in the Longines Master Collection Moon Phases at Meydan on 5th January, 2012, but could not recover after that.
Both these runners have what it takes to dominate longer distance, but this time it seems that the victory will be Cai Shen’s.
