China’s ace shuttlers Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng did not let the hopes of their home fans down when they toppled Korea’s newly formed pair of Lee Yong Dae and Kim Sa Rang in the title match of Thomas Cup Finals 2012 in China, on Sunday, May 27.
The World Number One Yun and Haifeng, who are also ruling World Champions, showed their remarkable skills in front of the huge home crowd and overpowered their Korean opponents in a thrilling fashion.
The higher ranked Chinese pair put up tremendous show of attacking game in the whole competition and managed to win the contest in straight sets in 53 minutes.
On the other hand, Yong Dae and Sa Rang played competitive badminton against their higher ranked Chinese challengers but failed to overpower them and lost the fight in two games with a tight score on the board.
In the first game, both pairs started their campaign in an aggressive manner as they played with impressive power in their shots and pushed each other in all areas of the court.
However, until the one-minute interval, Yun and Haifeng showed their aggression by playing well at net and took a reasonable lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the Chinese shuttlers continued playing with precision in front of their more than 25,000 home fans and remained successful in taking the first game with a 21-16 margin on the score board.
In the second game, both sides played top class badminton as they did not make any mistake and remained close on the board at the initial stage.
However, the Koreans played dominating badminton in the court and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the one-minute break.
After the break, Yun and Haifeng changed their tactics and executed flat shots which helped them to level the score at 11-11.
Both pairs played smashing game throughout the concluding part of second game and reached at 23-23 when Yun and Haifeng showed their superior skills and won the set with a dramatic score of 25-23.
Yun and Haifeng emerged as the winners in this fabulous fight in two games with a 21-16 and 25-23 score on the board.
