Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng storm into Men’s Doubles final at 2012 London Olympics
China’s top shuttlers Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng delivered a solid performance and stormed into Men’s Doubles final after putting up strong show in semi-final contest when they outplayed Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong at the 2012 London Olympics
at Wembley Arena, on Saturday, August 4.
The World Number Two Yun and Haifeng, who are top seeded players in the Men’s Doubles draw of the championship, played with wonderful confidence and stamped their mark over their lower ranked Malaysian rivals in a superb fashion.
The higher ranked Chinese shuttlers played remarkable badminton in opening set and took it with an impressive ease. However, they had to work hard in the second game and took it to finish off the contest in straight sets with a reasonable margin.
The World Number Eight Kien Keat and Boon Heong, on the other hand, failed to play competitive badminton in opening set but they made their rivals work hard in the second game before losing it with a tight margin. They lost the battle in straight games without
proving their worth.
In the first game, the top seeded Chinese shuttlers played tremendous badminton as they controlled the game at net and forced their rivals to remain in a defensive position throughout the opening half.
The in-form Yun and Haifeng remained ahead on score board until the end of opening half of this semi-final clash.
After the interval, the lower ranked Kien Keat and Boon Heong tried their level best to reduce the deficit but failed to maintain their focus.
In the meanwhile, Yun and Haifeng remained consistent in their positive play and they managed to win the opening game with a huge 21-9 score on the board.
In the second game, Kien Keat and Boon Heong played different badminton as they showed their aggression and pushed their rivals on back foot.
The score progressed closely on score board and both sides remained quite close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued playing positive badminton and reached at the concluding phase when Yun and Haifeng showed their top class skills and managed to win the battle with a tight score of 21-19.
The impressive Yun and Haifeng easily managed to win the semi-final battle with a convincing 21-9 and 21-19 score on the board.
