Cain sinks the Rangers, Giants go 2 – 0 in World Series
The San Francisco Giants were surely going to be in the driving seat when they clinched the first game in the World Series. Things were looking good for the National League champions and with the second fixture on the helm, the opportunity to prolong the
wins tally had arisen. The Texas Rangers, on the other hand, were always going to be on the back foot. After Cliff Lee was out pitched by Tim Lincecum, in the first match, morale was imminently going to dip in the Texan locker room.
When Matt Cain came to pitch on Thursday night, the Rangers showed the supporters how unfocused they were. None of the hitters did well in the fixture. Ball thrower, C. J. Wilson, was ineffective for the reeling team and ended up allowing 2 runs off 3 hits.
He was fairly defensive and kept the Giants from hitting wilfully in the 6 innings he pitched, but San Francisco wasn’t going to quiet down as the ball club went wild in later innings. The bullpen collectively did worse than Wilson and when they came out to
throw in the following innings, they conceded 6 runs.
The Giants were in real form and their pitching ace star was up for the challenge to make the right impact. Matt Cain pitched 102 balls and managed 2 strike outs in the duration of his tenure on the mound. He conceded 4 hits and no runs in 7.2 innings. The
statistics weren’t surprising for most Giants’ fans. Matt has yet to concede a run in the post season and the result was a stellar continuation of his record. In the post match interview he said, “We've put ourselves in a good situation. We've just got to
take that confidence and some of the good approaches that we've had into these last two games and take them down to Texas with us.”
Manager Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers was present after the match and he shared a few words with the press by saying, “I think that more or less it has to do with the pitching we've been facing. We had some opportunities early in the ballgame to put
some runs on the board, and we had the right people up there, and he made his pitches.”
