Why only FIVE, when there are hundreds of sights in Cairo that are worth your time???  Naturally the Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza are a must, as is the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and a visit to the Khan El Khallili Bazaar, and the Citadel of Saladin (which includes a stop at the Mosque of Muhammad Ali -the Albanian ruler who brought Egypt into the Modern world).

But an entire day could be spent in just doing OLD CAIRO with it's Coptic churches of St. Sergius, St. Barbara, and the "Hanging" church of the Virgin, built on the ruined towers of the Fortress Babyon, the Coptic Museum, and the oldest synagogue in Africa (beautifully restored) the whole enclosed by the original Medievil gates that made it a closed enclave for Christians, Jews and other Non-Muslims...or a morning spent visiting  Al Azhar, probably the oldest university in the world....and then a stroll through the Street of the Tentmakers where men still practice the art of appliqued tent making, and the local native souk.

Or a day spent in Medievil Cairo...walking the length of the main street Muiz li din Allah from the Northern gates of Bab el Nasser and Bab el Futa, to the Southern gate of Bab Zuweila...where you will find the most extensive Medievil  monuments in the world...climb the minarets of the Muwayyed Mosque (built over Bab Zuweila) for a stunning view of Medievil Cairo.

Visit the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, one of the oldest in Cairo...with the adjacent Gayer Anderson Museum.  Or take a half day tour to visit the FIRST pyramid built in Egypt..the Step Pyramid of King Dzoser at Sakharrah:  and the monumental statue of Rameses the Great at the old capital of Memphis.

After a full day of sight seeing treat yourself to a sundown sail, on the Nile, in one of the 'party' feluccas that are for rent all up and down the Nile corniche.  Look for one with a lot of young Egyptians singing and dancing...they will be very happy to have you join them.

Whatever you decide...enjoy your stay in Egypt....it is a lovely, safe, country, filled with friendly, hospitible people.  I guarantee you will want to return.

    Edit:

Anyone know who the IDIOT is who is giving thumbs down to ALL of the answers??????
