Caitlin Leverenz earns Women’s 400m IM gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Caitlin Leverenz of Una CAL-PC earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 21-year-old Leverenz served notice of her talent by snaring gold medal of the IM discipline. With her stupendous efforts, she showed no leniency to her challengers and reached the finishing end for gold medal.
Leverenz remained prominently ahead of her challengers from the start of the race as she cruised her way towards the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 38.35 seconds.
She was followed by Kathryn Hoff of Una T2-FL, who stayed almost 2.50 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.82 seconds.
Hoff was followed by Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim-NE, who stayed nearly half body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 41.22 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the event was secured by Sarah Henry of Unattached-GU, who remained nearly five seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 46.61 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed alluring efforts of Oakland Live Yer’s Peter Vanderkaay in the Men’s 400m IM. The 28-year-old Vanderkaay dictated terms to his challengers in the distant IM event and emerged on the finishing end for gold medal.
With his alluring efforts, he remained almost two body lengths faster from his closest challenger and posted a time of 4 minutes and 16.22 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Oussama Mellouli of Trojan Swim Club, who stepped on the podium for silver medal by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 18.81 seconds.
Similarly, Mellouli stayed nearly 2.50 seconds faster from his teammate, William Harris, who hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 21.27 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders collected awards and accolades for their notable efforts in the 400m event at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the session ended after the completion of all events.
