Caitlin Leverenz grabs Women’s 400m IM gold – Swimming news
Caitlin Leverenz of California Aquatics grabbed gold medal of Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Saturday, June 1.
The 22-year-old Leverenz stayed in a prominent lead over her following swimmers throughout the race. With her epic pace, she faced no trouble from her opponents in the in final round and comfortably sprinted her way towards the finishing end for first position.
With her commendable pace, she managed to achieve a four-second improvement in her qualification time. Leverenz enjoyed a comfortable lead over her challengers and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 40.05 seconds.
The champion remained almost two seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Andrea Taylor, who also made a significant improvement in her qualification time, as she tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 42.32 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Elizabeth Beisel of Blue Fish-NE, who was 4.28 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 46.60 seconds.
Celina Li of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained only 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall for fourth position with the timing of 4 minutes and 46.66 seconds, followed the third best finisher.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Marni Oldershaw of Swim ON, who stayed almost two body lengths slower from her preceding finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 48.43 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Annie Zhu of North Baltimore, who was just 0.10 seconds behind and finished her race in a time of 4 minutes and 48.53 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Annie Harrison of Swim On, who stayed one and a half body lengths slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 50.17 seconds.
Eighth spot of the event was obtained by Amber McDermott of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who was 1.30 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 51.47 seconds.
Furthermore, Leverenz was overjoyed with her top finish in the race while the position holders collected medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the session.
