Caitlin Leverenz seizes Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Caitlin Leverenz of Una CAL-PC seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 21-year-old Leverenz lived up to the expectations of her fans as she outperformed the world and American record holder, Ariana Kukors in a comfortable manner.
Leverenz faced no trouble in smothering the efforts of world champion as she dominated the event from the start. With her immaculate efforts, she completed her first lap of the race in a fastest time of 28.09 seconds.
Her effort remained 0.68 seconds faster from Kukors, who covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 28.77 seconds.
The lead swimmer continued her smothering efforts in the second lap, where she sustained her fastest spot and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 02.32 second.
Her gruelling pace remained 0.56 seconds faster from Kukors, who covered her first half of the 200m discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.88 seconds.
With her continued efforts, Leverenz served notice of her talent in the third lap, where she succeeded in extending her lead over closest swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 38.85 seconds,
Her impeccable effort remained 1.33 seconds ahead of Kukors, who completed her initial 150 metres of the swim by clocking a time of 1 minute and 40.18 seconds.
Leverenz continued her nerve-wrecking pace in the final lap and sprinted her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.25 seconds.
She was followed by Kukors, who stayed 0.84 seconds apart and reached the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 11.09 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Elizabeth Pelton of T2 Aquatics-FL, who was almost half body length behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 11.87 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders received medals after the session.
