Caitlin Leverenz snares Women’s 200m IM gold: Day three - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Caitlin Leverenz of California Aquatics snared gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Sunday, June 3.
Santa Clara is the seventh and last stop of the 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that offers an opportunity to world-class players to race each other in their exclusive events before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 21-year-old Leverenz made her way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal. With her unrelenting efforts and unmatchable pace, she devastated hopes of her challengers and secured the title of the event.
Leverenz demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the four-lap IM event and kept her challengers at a considerable bay for the crown. With her alluring skills, she sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.81 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Madeline J Dirado of Unattached-PC, who remained nearly three seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.70 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Kate E Dwelley of Unattached-PC, who stayed 2.44 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 16.14 seconds.
Fourth spot of the discipline was secured by Mikaela S Macklin of Sierra Marlins Swim Team, who stayed one body length away from her foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 17.38 seconds.
Macklin was chased by Felicia F Lee of Unattached-MD, who remained nearly two body lengths apart and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for fifth position with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.14 seconds.
Subsequently, Lee was chased by Addisynn S Bursch of Unattached-IE, who secured sixth position of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 22.22 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal distribution ceremony while the tournament ended after the conclusion of all events in Men and Women’s category.
