Caitlin Leverenz wins Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day one - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Caitlin A Leverenz of California Aquatic claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on first day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Friday, June 1.
Santa Clara International is the final stop of the seven-stage 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that gives a chance to elite swimmers to warm up before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 21-year-old Leverenz smothered hopes of her challengers by capturing gold medal of the 200m discipline in a phenomenal timing of 2 minutes and 26.46 seconds.
The champion was followed by Katlin N Freeman of Santa Barbara Aquatics, who stayed one and a half body length behind and reached the podium for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 27.83 seconds.
Similarly, third position of the discipline was obtained by Sarra Lajnef of Una Gsc-FL, who stayed two body lengths apart and proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 30.09 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Elizabeth A Smith of Unattached-PC, who was 1.18 seconds slower from securing the third position of the discipline and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 31.27 seconds.
Smith was chased by Qing Hua Wu of Shanghai Swimming Club, who stayed 1.14 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 32.41 seconds.
Similarly, sixth position of the discipline was secured by Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto Stanford, who was nearly 1.50 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 34.01 seconds.
The 18-year-old Tosky was chased by Laura A Lindsay of Canton City School, who finished seventh in the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 35.34 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Lisa M Blackburn of T2 Aquatics, who failed to upset any of her challengers and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 36.41 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
