Caitlyn Richardson earns Women 100m backstroke gold: Day one – 2012 NSW Metropolitan Championships
Caitlyn Richardson of SSSD earned the crown of Long Course 100m backstroke race in Women 15 Year Olds age group on primary day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) Metropolitan Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday, March 3.
The NSW meet provided an opportunity to all age group competitors to race each other in their exclusive events and prove their mettle for the national titles.
Richardson remained dominant over her challengers from the start. She experienced strong contest from her competitors in the double lap event but with her unimaginable efforts, she devastated hopes of her rivals by finishing first in the event.
With her alluring effort, she remained considerably ahead of her competitors and completed her first half of the race in a time of 32.28 seconds. She was followed by Sabrina Kwok of CRAN, who stayed 0.31 seconds slower and covered her initial half with the
timing of 32.59 seconds.
Kwok was trailed by Rebecca Booth of ABBT, who was only 0.32 seconds slower from her and remained prominent for third position by producing a time of 32.91 seconds.
Richardson continued her thrilling form in the second lap, where she surpassed all struggles of her competitors and made her way to the podium in a comfortable manner. She clocked a wonderful effort of 1 minute and 06.00 seconds for gold medal of the event.
Her title claiming pace was 0.18 seconds faster from the mark of 1 minute and 06.18 seconds, set by Alicia Caldwell of CARL in 2010.
With her epic performance, she enjoyed an advantage of 1.17 seconds over Booth, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by concluding her race in a time of 1 minute and 07.17 seconds. Booth was trailed by her closet competitor, Kwok, who suffered
a deficit of 0.28 seconds and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 07.45 seconds for bronze medal.
The session came to an end after the completion of all planned events while winners were invited on the medal rostrum for their scintillating forms after the completion of session.
