Caja Laboral and CSKA Moscow win: Euroleague Basketball Roundup November 02 – Part 2
Four games took place in the 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague on November 02, 2011. Here is a brief review of the games:
Caja Laboral 81 – Olympiacos 79
At Iradier Arena in Vitoria, Pablo Prigioni stole the show with a brilliant game-winning jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining as Caja Laboral won their third consecutive game of the Euroleague regular season with an 81-79 victory
over the Olympiacos.
Mirza Teletovic led the way with a game-high 20 points on an 11 for 13 shooting from free throw line. Kevin Seraphin and Fernando San Emeterio racked up 15 points each in the victory.
Olympiacos’ Vassilis Spanoulis registered a team-high 19 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed three rebounds. Pero Antic and Kyle Hines each chipped in 14 points while Marko Keselj ended with 10 points for Olympiacos, who
have dropped 2-1 in Group A.
Olympiacos held an 11-6 lead early in the first quarter before Caja Laboral scored three consecutive points to make it 11-9. However, the Reds reeled off an 11-4 run in the last four minutes of the quarter for a 22-11 advantage
after 10 minutes.
Caja made a good comeback in the second quarter and cut the Reds’ lead to four with two minutes to go in the first half. Olympiacos responded with two free throws and a lay-up for a 40-32 lead at halftime.
Laboral once again fought hard and made it a three-point contest with one minute left in the third quarter. However, Martynas Gecevicius hit a shot from downtown to push their lead to 66-60, heading into the last quarter.
Laboral scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, tied the game at 66 early in the quarter, and went ahead by 79-74 with almost two minutes to go in the game. Kyle Hynes then scored a lay-up for the Reds and tied the game
at 79. Prigioni answered with a jumper to seal he victory for his team.
CSKA Moscow 89 - KK Zagreb Croatia Osiguranje 47
CSKA Moscow remained undefeated in Group B of Euroleague with a solid 89-47 victory over KK Zagreb Croatia Osiguranje at Zagreb Arena in Croatia for their third straight win.
Nenad Krstic paced the winners with 15 points and grabbed five rebounds while Andrey Vorontsevich had 12 points, on a 4 for 6 shooting from downtown, grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball twice. Sammy Mejia ended with 10 points
and two steals for Moscow.
Krunoslav Simon headed the KK Zagreb with 15 points and five rebounds. Mario Kasun added 14 points and grabbed a game-best nine rebounds for Zagreb, who have dropped to 0-3 in Group B.
CSKA went 11 for 20 from three-point range and committed just eight turnovers as compared to 18 by the visiting team.
Zagreb go off to a satisfactory start this time and scored the first four points of the game but Moscow reeled off a superb 16-0 run for a 16-4 lead. The hosts maintained their lead in the closing minutes of the quarter and took
a nine-point lead into the second.
Moscow continued to play one of their best defences and outplayed KK 23-13 for a 45-24 lead at halftime. Zagreb could not overcome their mistakes in the entire second half and CSKA walked away with an impressive 42-point victory.
