  1. Buy a lot of cake tins. See what ideas/creation you want to do. If you are considering selling them then you need to wear hairnets and gloves etc and have your home looked at by safety officials. There are loads of ideas online and you can buy craft bits for them from ebay. I am making my daughter a fairycake castle and adding feather and siler beads etc. - I got those from Ebay to save costs. tryout different cakes too to see what you are good at.

  2. Communities and colleges have a one time class that helps you learn these tasks. I've taken one and was amazed what can be done and what goes on a cake that should ne be eaten all in the vain of decoration.

    GOOD LUCK on your goal!!!

  3. i took  a noncredit course at a community college and learned so much!  the class was cheap and i just had to invest in the basic cake decorating supplies and pans.  i use the supplies all the time now.  i also had a blast.

  4. I would take a course in cake deco from either a local college or go the the Wilton website and see if they are holding any local courses anywhere. I would also check with craft stores in your area and see what they offer. Around here we have Michael's and Hobby Lobby. They sell cake deco supplies and have classes.

  5. Get a starter kit of pastry tips, pastry bags, coloring and cake decorating books- Wilton has a great and easy line of cake decorating products including books with step-by-step instructions and colorful detailed pictures. See if there are any cake decorating classes in your area- I have a Michael's near me that offers Wilton classes. Also, investing in a good set of dummy cakes (fake boxes that are round or square like cakes but are made of washable vinyl) are great for practicing without wasting food. Go on youtube.com and look up some of the amateru cake decorating videos too- some of them are really informative and it helps to see how people hold the equipment in real time as opposed to still pictures. Good luck!

  6. The best way to learn is to go to a shop that sells big, decorated cakes and ask them if they run any courses. If not, ask them if they could show you.

I have a local shop that makes such cakes and they have courses, just for a few people at a time.

  7. Pick up wilton cake decorating books they have instructions on "how to" in them, also places like Micheals will give you classes for cheap. I am self taught just by reading the books. Its practice and having the right consistancy icing when your piping. I haven't gotten into fondant though which I want to do sometime. Anyway have fun it is a cool art form to express yourself.
